My chiropractic path: Fate, Faith, and Healing
I was first introduced to chiropractic through my mom. I was 16 at the time, had traveled to Australia and came back with a God-awful headache that would just not go away. Not being keen on medications, I was taken to the chiropractor and with one quick adjustment, I walked out without a headache. I was awe-struck.
I continued to seek chiropractic care on an as needed basis throughout high school and college as I was very active in sports and extracurriculars. It wasn’t until a friend told me she was moving to Kansas City and asked if I wanted to come along to help her find a place to live that even the thought of becoming a chiropractor went through my mind.
We traveled to KC from Iowa, and as we passed Cleveland Chiropractic College, now known as Cleveland University, I KNEW I was being called to become a chiropractor. My mom and I came down and visited the very next weekend, and although we toured a few other schools, including the founding school of chiropractic, Palmer, right in my home state of Iowa, I KNEW in my heart that Cleveland Chiropractic and Kansas City was where I was meant to be.
I spent the next four years devoting myself to truly understanding the whys behind chiropractic and alternative health options. I graduated cum laude, started practicing in 2013, and after five practices in five years, fate yet again intervened as I was living a life out of balance. I was overworked, overstressed, and not supported. I got really sick. REALLY. SICK.
With every negative there is positive. The positive in my body shutting down and me reaching complete burn out, like many millennials are also experiencing, was discovering true life-work balance. It taught me it was okay to SLOW down. More than okay actually, it was NECESSARY. I discovered the roles of homeopathic care, naturopathic care, functional medicine, essential oils, acupuncture, and diet in terms of how they can TRULY support a wellness lifestyle.
While I’m still not healed yet, I have to know that I will come out of this with more knowledge, more appreciation, more gratefulness, and more love in and for my life and the simple things we take for granted.
I am here to provide my patients a safe, comfortable space of listening and support no matter where you are on your wellness journey. A space to not only get you moving and bring your nervous system back into balance, back into optimum functioning, but to also to help you identify and eliminate the traumas, toxins, and thoughts that brought you here in the first place.
